For a long time, induction units and fan coil units have been the decentralized air conditioning systems of choice for commercial buildings. They are positioned beneath suspended ceilings to line with the heating and cooling loads.

An induction unit is a type of air handling device that cools and distributes air throughout the duct system as part of the HVAC system. A fan coil unit, on the other hand, differs from an induction unit HVAC in that it is a stand-alone system that circulates and keeps air flowing in a small area.

The differences between induction units and fan coil units, as well as how they work in HVAC systems, are detailed below.

The Induction Unit vs. the Fan Coil Unit

Both methods circulate existing air through the ductwork of the structure. They both come in a variety of styles and configurations, depending on the needs of the building.

Induction Unit

The induction unit HVAC system uses nozzles to distribute air throughout the space. The temperature of the air is adjusted to the heat exchanges before being blown back into the rooms with the primary air via an air output grille.

Because of the higher-pressure uptake, the induction unit requires a lot of electricity. The central ventilation unit fans are responsible for this power consumption. The volume of air required to minimize contaminants multiplies dramatically in induction units, resulting in higher energy consumption. With the same air duct diameters, the pressure loss likewise increases. The volume of air is significantly more than that of the fan coil units.

Because of the greater air volume, the air handling unit sends more cooling to the induction units.

Fan Coil Unit

The supply outlet in the lowered ceiling is supported by fan coil units. The fan coil unit is in charge of forcing air into the room through a shadow gap in the ceiling. Just before the air is cycled back inside the cabin, the temperature is changed.

A fan coil unit is commonly used to acclimate HVAC systems in places like hotel rooms and business buildings. It takes up less space and produces more cooling and heating. Fan coils are also effective in tiny spaces, such as office cabins.

In comparison to induction units, fan coil units often use less energy. Fan coils have a lower air energy expenditure due to the limited volume of system airflow.

In the HVAC system, fan coil units are also useful for handling water. Because they don’t require any filters, the cost of replacement is quite minimal. You can save on cost by using regenerating filters instead of buying new ones.
